Availability: Available on back-order

Temporarily out of stock through more demand than expected! We are working hard to restock ASAP (likely third week of September) – in the meantime you may backorder to secure your units!

The Saturn AM32 80A motor controller is the ideal match for your Saturn RB4250 1000KV Brushless Motor! It’s ready out-of-the-box to make the most of your Saturn system, or indeed any similarly sized brushless (or brushed with a firmware tweak!) motor. AM32 is an open-source firmware in active development in the world of drones and RC rock crawlers, but it has a huge application in robotics. It offers extremely fine motor control, especially at low speeds when high torque is required, when compared to other firmware options. It is also easy to tune using freely available software. For more information, check the AM32 github!

One of AM32’s best features is that it is available in brushless or brushed versions. For now we are offering brushless only firmware, and we pre-install a bidirectional-with-braking setup which will work beautifully for drivetrains like the Saturn-19 and RB4250 combo. If you’re planning on running your Saturn ESC with a significantly different motor, we recommend tuning the code to your specific needs for the best performance (more info below). Note that all controllers will ship with the latest stable firmware version of AM32, which is currently 1.99.

The Saturn 80A has presoldered wires and bullet connectors on the motor side.

A single package contains:

  • 1x controller

The key technical details are:

  • Dimensions (W*H*L): 32.5*15*70mm + wires
  • Wire spec: 125mm 14AWG (power) + 3.5mm bullet connectors (motor), 300mm + Futaba connector (signal)
  • Weight: 68g (including wires)
  • Current rating (with adequate cooling): 80A
  • Input voltage: 2-6s
  • BEC: 5V, up to 5A

For anyone looking to tune their own settings, this ESC is compatible with several builds of AM32, but is currently shipped with “AM32_ATDEV32_F421”. You can download that here:

To connect to your ESC you will need a USB serial adapter, a Betaflight flight controller or you can repurpose an Arduino.  There is plenty of information about this online and on the repository.

We will ship your Saturn 80A controller with these settings (note, they aren’t absolutely maxed out and are bidirectional)! If you have a custom firmware request, just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help!

All credit for the excellent AM32 firmware goes to its developers!
